When there are gaps in your CV / Resume
Were you unemployed, did you give birth to a child, were you ill for a long time, did any unexpected complications in your family come, did you have insignificant job from the point of view of your professional career, ...?
What to do:
- Try to fill in these gaps. Even when you do not have the permanent job, dovote yourself to something which is connected with your profession. Find single projects, educate yourself, work for a professional association, etc.
- Prove (show, demonstrate) that the time off work did not make your value at the labour market lower at all. Show the way you used the time, educated yourself, got new experience, etc.
- Show that you are flexible, willing to commute and possibly able to do a slightly different kind of job than that you are applying for. Suggest that you would possibly strart on a little lower position than you were used to.
- Explain the gaps in your professional career in a covering letter which should be attached to your CV. You can foreshadow the reasons but do it just by one or two sentences, do not give too much detail as describing your long illness or frustration from looking for a job for a very long time.
